Lord Gore Interview!
Interview Conducted by Fred - Adtsgrind@aol.com, like way back in 2003
1)So how did Lord Gore start?
GURGE: It started as a fun way to pass time. Sort of a joke band
to relax
from the other bands we were playing in. It soon got more serious and
developed a life of its own, but we never intended it to get past one
demo
really. Im glad we stuck with it, cuz its way better and more fun than
the
other band we were jamming at the time, despite the lineup changes,
headaches, etc.
2)What kind of gear do you guys use? Feel
free to get as technical or as
simplistic as you want.
GURGE: Marshall JCM2000 DSL100 heads, Marshall cabs, Ibanez guitars
equipped with Duncan Invaders. Pretty simple really. When we record,
we mix
it up with a fender performer hybrid, for some of that solid state,
super
saturation to mix with the organic tube crunch.
3)Your last CD was called The Autophagous
Orgy. Someone could easily look that word up in a dictionary but a lot
of people are just too lazy to
do it, so could you explain what that means and why you chose it?
GURGE: To be Autophagous is to eat one's self. The cover depicts
women
eating themselves and eachother in an orgiastic dungeon. The theme of
the
song is what it would be like to be in solitary confinement, and to
commit
suicide by eating your own flesh until you expire. Fun stuffs.
4)What are some bands that inspire you guys?
GURGE: Definitely Autopsy, Rigor Mortis, Old Mortal Decay, Grave,
Unleashed, Pungent Stench, Repulsion, Impetigo, Early Cannibal Corpse.
Doom
and gore are what we draw most from, but theres definitely a death metal
feel from time to time.
5)How the hell do you do those deep-ass gurgle/growls?
Is it something you
can learn or is it just natural for some people?
GURGE: Its a learned thing, but took quite a while to cultivate
in my case.
I've been doing it since I was a kid, but I started just doing it as
a high
shrill shriek that I just called the "alien scream" cuz it
sounded like the
aliens from the movie of the same name. Just involves inhaling in different
capacities. The hardest thing is building up a tolerance so you dont
choke,
but the coolest part is, youre not as limited by lung capacity because
youre drawing air in, and I do lots of mids as well, so after I do some
gutteral inhales, its usually time for midrange exhales. I wouldnt
reccommend it to anyone tho, because it fucks your throat up something
fierce. Definitely not something i could do every night for a month
or
something.
6)I read on your official website that you
are working on a new CD.
How is that coming along? Are you going to stay along the lines,
musically, of The Autophagous Orgy or are you going to try and expand
your sound beyond what it already is?
GURGE: Yes, we have quite a few songs done now. For the most
part, its got
similiar fast death metal and grind parts with doom breakdowns and endings,
but its much more varied and much faster this time around. It retains
simple parts here and there, but has become a bit more complex. Also
we
have a new guitarist for these songs, so theres a whole new dynamic
added.
So far I think it sounds great. Were also doing covers of "Decomposed"
by
Repulsion, "Foaming at the mouth" by Rigor Mortis, and an
as yet
undisclosed Autopsy song for various splits and releases.
7)Sticking with your upcoming releases for
a moment, when can we expect the
split with Blood Duster and Leng T'che? I don't even know if it is out
yet, since the site hasn't been updated since February.
GURGE: Not sure when it is coming out, but it will rule. We're
stoked to be
a part of something with those guys. It will probably be the first of
the
upcoming splits we're doing, also with Engorged and biolich.
8)This is kind of a lame question, but I've
got to know if you could
tour the country with 3 bands of your choosing, who would they be?
GURGE: Ahhh, thats a great question! Most probably, the newly
reunited
Rigor Mortis, Abscess, and Impaled most likely. That would crush!
9)When are you guys going to come out East
so I can see Lord Gore live?
GURGE: Fuck, we'd love to come out there! We may do so with Engorged
and
Impaled this summer, but nothing is confirmed yet. Can we crash at your
pad??
Thanks for giving us the time of day. Keep
up the good work.
GURGE: So long, and thanks for all the fish! X.X.X.
