Interview with Unburied

by joseangeles@muchomail.com, in 2006

These guys have been around for more than a decade playing death metal, met them on myspace, I agreed to interview them cause they sound like Morpheus Descends and have the very New York style death metal sound, which is cool with me.

- For people unfamiliar with you guys, tell us about what you try to achieve with Unburied's sound and what bands you guys consider yourselves similiar to or influenced by?

I make music that i want to hear. Unburied play very brutal death metal. The music is raw and catchy, fast death blasts and slow grooves I am influenced by my experiences in life. The feelings of hate, violence, murder, action/horror films and distrust in people. I love NYHC and NYDM style bands. I think thats where most of my style comes from, though Unburied is not a clone of any band.

- You've guys have been around since 1994, I was in fourth grade back then, that is a long long time. What do you think was the best year for Unburied? Which year were you guys most active?

The band has been around for over a decade now. I think the band is better then its ever been. We have a killer line up for live shows. These guys are the best people I have ever played with. I guess this would be Unburied's best year. We signed to METALBOLIC RECORDS. We have a split cd out with SEEKING OBSCURE on METALBOLIC. UNBURIED got offered to play Detroit Death Fest in the past couple months, im feeling good about it.

- What plans do you have for Unburied in upcoming years? Any releases you guys are excited about?

I hope to release a full lenth cd. No!

- Do you guys feel that the underground scene has accepted you well? What do you think of th underground scene at the present? Better or worse than before?

We have gotten great reponses from the underground scene. I like the the old tape trading days and paper zines. It was more underground to me. Today the underground is alot different but its easier and cheaper to get your band heard.

- I love some of the artwork Unburied has, real gruesome horror drawings. Are these all hand drawn? Will the band always stick to this kind of imagery instead of using the polished computer graphic stuff that is big these days?

Mark Riddick is the artist. yes, the art is done by hand.

- A lot of bands make changes to their sound by adding different elements or changing the pace. How long will you guys play this style of death metal? Will it remain the same always?

Well, I think with time the bands sound changes. We get better. I have know idea what we will sound like in the future.

- How do you guys go about getting lyrics and song titles? Do you guys get inspiration from horror movies? I noticed Henry Potrait of a Serial Killer was sampled.

I come up with all the samples for UNBURIED, I write the the majority of the lryics, song titles and music. Mark writes some lryics, music and song titles aswell. I love horror movies, yes they inspire me.

- In the future, do you think metal can get any more heavier or brutal than what there is today?

Sure

- I noticed there are two other bands called Unburied, what do you think of them? Ever run into them, haha?

I never heard there music. We have had the name for over 11 years now. Im not going anywhere and im not changing the name. Trademarking is way to much fucking money. No, ive never ran into them, haha! Fucking Cumdumpsters!

- That wraps it up, feel free to leave any kind of comment you want here, thanks.
