Here we have Bride of Insect and Carrion for Worm, two solid releases from this 80's grindcore/crossover/primative death metal band. No fancy technical solos, complex riffing, or anything like that. This is as primative sounding as early grind gets. Its grind influences are like a much more raw version of early-Carcass, Impetigo, and Repulsion. The death metal elements are slow and dingy, like early Autopsy. Vocals are what sets Bride of Insect apart from the typical Carcass-clone though. They're not guttural or shrieky on the Bride of Insect half. In fact I'd say they resemeble a more heavy metal thrash/crossover voice. The vocalist can go from fast insane vocals (that aren't harsh) to even falsettos! (this could be one of the few grind releases some Iron Maiden fanboy can appreciate) Very versatile. On the Carrion of Worm side, you do have the standard old school goregrind vox, which are executed well and don't use pitch-shifting (which too many bands abuse these days!), so I'm not complaining. Pretty much, a straightforward, filthy, simplistic, catchy, raw, classic album I rank alongside with albums like Scum, Ultimo Monod Cannibal, and Horrified. It actually reminds me of O.L.D (another forgotten legendary band) without the experimental and comedic elemenets. Check out the album cover by the way, pure hand drawn shit, very creative.
